Podcast Episode 109: The Fake Story of Planet X, Part 9 – Marshall Masters

Conspiracy shrouds
Planet X in mystery.
Perpetual DDDDOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM.

In this episode, we get Marshall Masters’ version of Planet X. There’s honestly not too much new with his view except that he brings in lots of various ideas of Planet X to make a non-cohesive argument and salts it generously with a whole lotta conspiracy. Graham requested the topic, and because I wanted to do something interesting, I explored a somewhat different way of introducing it with a suggestion from Mike Bohler.

Let me know what you think of the intro. And, does anyone recognize the music at the ~1-minute mark?

There’s also a New News segment, courtesy of Flip.

  1. I didn’t realize that Eminem (Slim Shady) had a theory of Planet X….

  2. Huzzah, Stuart! I’ve been waiting for this one as I don’t think Marshall has gotten enough attention of late. This one is a bit more bizarre than previous predictions in that now there’s a ‘brown dwarf; (M’S words) replete with a number of planets and moons about to bluster through the Solar System. One might think this would have been noticed 3600 years ago. Thanks for another great job.

    • Thanks, Jay. What’d you think of the somewhat different approach this time?

      • I don’t believe this would work with very many others, but Marshall is unique and I have read so much that he’s written and listened to him so much that I found your approach to be most appropriate – and hilarious. You nailed him.

      • Thanks. And I agree. I’m not going to say this is a one-time thing, but I thought it worked this time and there are relatively few examples where it would work again. I can only think of one or two out of the 108 other episodes where it could work …

  3. Good episode Stuart! I personally believe that Masters typifies the third reaction to 2012 non-apocalypse (1. Claim it was a ‘spiritual’ apocalypse. 2. Drop off the net for a while.) , namely just keep claiming the same old stuff, but shift the dates forward a few years and that’s why it’s important to keep at these people, not for nothing did the folks at Skeptics with a K suggest that ‘Sisyphus’ rather than Rodin’s Thinker should be used as a symbol by skeptics groups.

As for the background music it sounded like it was a derivative of the ‘Star Wars’ music, but beyond that I cannot say.

    • Thanks Graham. I think that the third kind of 2012’er is the worst. They’re the ones who seem the most cynical, the most fear-mongering, and that people still believe them shows how stupid gullible people really are.

      • 2012’ers of any kind is not good….Most of the well known ones dropped off the face of the planet after 12-21-12 failed to be the big one.

      • Unfortunately, Marshall Masters did not. He now claims that 2012 was all a media event. Despite explicitly stating before it didn’t happen that everything catastrophe would happen.

    • P.S. The show was on in the 90s, had a spin-off that was better than it. Both ran 6 seasons (I think), and the spin-off was popular with lesbians. Live-action, though it was often mocked for its horribly staged fight scenes. Filmed in New Zealand. … Ring a bell at all?

      • I think I can guess what you mean, I’m glad to say I never watched any of those shows

  5. Should we not be able to see Marshall’s planet X by now? I seem to remember that 2016 was the big year… or has it been pushed back again?

    • I haven’t seen nor heard any update, but I’m sure he’ll think of some excuse.

      • Oh you can bet it will…Planets did not align not enough earthquakes……
