Lunar ziggurat
Keeps on giving and giving …
Is there end in sight?
Sorry this one took so very, very long to get out. Jet lag is not fun. I gave two talks while I was in Australia, and both were versions of this, “The Saga of the Lunar Ziggurat.” The audio this time is from a recording at the Launceston Skeptics in the Pub event and a group about two weeks later in Melbourne. It was “live” and hence of variable quality, including street noise. But, the quality isn’t bad.
Listening to this on Australia Day (26th Jan). Good episode. Thanks for the warning it was put together from two different recordings, though that was pretty clear from the differing background sound levels, I hope you can resolve this at some point as it was a little distracting. Yesh, Mike Barra is a complete, unmitigated jerk.

I think it switched 5 times, in 45 min. I figured that wasn’t so bad.

Very nice. Did you get any follow-up questions from your audience?
Comment by Expat — January 26, 2014 @ 1:21 pm |
I did, and they were another 45 minutes. I haven’t listened to how well the recording came out, but I’m going to do an episode later with them if they are decent.

Was there anything in particular that they latched on to?

I read the foreword of ancients aliens of mars, free btw via the sample of the book in the kindle library.
Mr. barra is nothing more than a bully, you can be wrong about anything and still be a decent human being, You can find his type of rethoric and tone in many of the texts to used by racists, supremacists and religious fanatics of any faith.
It is kind of scary and thanks to you, i see now that these are not just pseudo scientists trying to make money using any subject but really dangerous people who need to be fought before they bully us into letting them rewrite history and what really is science.

[…] had occasion to troll around on the PseudoAstronomy blog a couple days ago and found Episode 99: The Saga of the Lunar Ziggurat. Astronomer Stuart Robbins exposes the (pseudo)astronomical crapulence like only he can. Enjoy! (If […]

Stuart,
A quick heads up. The Discovery Channel is doing an ‘Ancient Aliens on the Moon’ “documentary”, so far the only names mentioned are Buzz Aldrin and Edgar Mitchell, but I have no doubt that H & B will be there somewhere.

I think I saw it in about 5 places. 🙂 We’ll see what happens.

I’ve not seen it but Expat has, looks like the bought in the Lunar Ziggurat and ‘Apollo 20’! The latter was probably picked because it is so obscure (And old, the original videos (No longer available, though I may still have copies of some) are about seven years old.) This thead on JayUtah’s old board covers it.

There is also an unpublished wikipedia page on the whole affair, which provides a summary.

Stuart,
Mike Bara has just released a new book on Amazon, I’m not going to link to it but he seems to be trying to peddle his conspiracy to a new audience in the novel “Lightbringer: A Dark Mission Novel”, which looks to contain all of his old claims about NASA.
Comment by Graham — December 5, 2017 @ 11:17 am |
I thought it was supposed to be fiction? I mean, everything he writes is fiction, but this was actually labeled as such.
Comment by Stuart Robbins — December 5, 2017 @ 9:25 pm |
Yes the novel is labeled as fiction, which is the best place to put all of his claims. Here is the first sentence of the plot summary:
“Lightbringer is the story of FBI Special Agent Lori Pars, who finds herself assigned to investigate the bizarre ritual murders of a NASA scientist and a well-known NASA critic.”
I’m guessing that he is trying to do the same thing that Tom DeLonge said he wanted to do, use fiction to convince people that their claims are real.
