Podcast Episode 19: John Lear (and Some of His Claims)

The long-delayed episode 19 is now posted: John Lear. John is the son of the famous inventor of the Lear Jet but just kinda threw out all credibility when he bought into … UFOs, aliens, cities on the Moon and Mars and Venus and Mercury and Pluto and Neptune etc., a soul catcher on the moon, the Kennedy conspiracy, 9/11 “truth,” crop circles, and many other things – those are just naming a few.

In the episode – which may be a Part 1 if people want more (comments people, feedback people!) – I talk about three of his claims: The atmosphere of Venus, the atmosphere of the moon, and lunar formation. I also spend a fair amount of time finally getting into details about pareidolia, including a short spelling lesson.

Also what bears announcing is that I now have a Facebook page for the podcast (and blog). And, I now have a Twitter account for the podcast/blog: @PseudoAstro .

  1. The closing of the Lear segment was priceless. Did I miss the pictures you talked about?

  2. The idea that the Moon was once part of the Pacific Ocean is not taken seriously by any scientist today, but John Lear didn’t just make that one up. I happened to learn of this old hypothesis recently while watching How the Earth Works, a series of video lectures delivered by Michael Wysession, and published by The Teaching Company. In Lecture Seven – Creating Earth: Recipe for a Planet, Wysession mentions, “Some people actually proposed that the moon formed when a star came by and ripped part of the Earth out to form what’s now the Pacific Ocean. In fact, George Darwin, one of Charles Darwin’s sons who was a very accomplished scientist in his own right, proposed this.”

  3. My take on John Lear is that he is a rational human who is having fun with those who believe him and with those who believe he believes what he says. He may believe some (very little) of what he’s saying but to him it’s all a sendup! The joke is on everyone.

  4. Nasty Gash (above) suggests that John Lear is actually ‘pulling chains’ and enjoying a merry guffaw with it all. This may well be true as I quite often find John to have journeyed far beyond the proverbial pale with his assertions. And these flights of fantasy seem to be growing even more fantastic.

In an interview with Art Bell on C2C, 2-3 November 2003 (http://www.greatdreams.com/John-Lear.htm), John acknowledges that NASA put men on the Moon with the Apollo Program. He also asserts that at some point during the program ‘aliens’ issued a ‘cease and desist’ edict to NASA which resulted in Apollo 17 being the last effort.

(As an aside, the following exchange took place in the same interview (‘A’= Art Bell, ‘J’= John Lear):
    A – Well then – you’ve been following Richard’s [Hoagland’s] career to some degree?
    J – Absolutely! What a guy!’
This exchange obviously took place before John and Rich discussed the lunar atmosphere.)

Then, on 10 June 2012, during an interview with Mark Snider on his Ohio Exopolitics BTR show (http://www.Blogtalkradio.com/ohioexopolitics/2012/06/11/john-lear-on-artificial-structures-on-the-moon), John stated unequivocally that Apollo crews never made it to the Moon. Among the several reasons stated was that the Van Allen Belt would have fried their bacon while they were en route – and they knew it – so they didn’t go.

In other interesting revelations during this interview, John stated that he estimated that 1.5 to 2 billion people were currently living on the Moon (mostly on the surface but a few Grays lived underground). He also described the lunar sky, as seen from the surface, as being a light saffron yellow hue. (This information came from an ‘eyewitness’ who visited the Moon some years ago.) And you will be interested to discover that there are FORTY planets in our Solar System. All the ones we cannot see are hidden by ‘giant mirrors’ or cloaked by the use of some other technology. (Question: is it possible to cloak gravity?) Oh, yes. I shouldn’t fail to mention that the Moon cities have fabulous malls. (I am NOT making this up!)

I don’t know John but I feel certain that he is a most competent aviator. Plus the FAA makes you earn all of those licenses. I suppose it is true that demonstrated expertise in one field of endeavor does NOT necessarily guarantee any competency in another.

So, Nasty, you may well be correct and John is ‘having a jolly’ at our expense. Whatever his intent, I hope he continues. It’s great entertainment and hearty chuckles are hard to come by these days.

Great job, Dr. Stu! I thought you were rather kind to John.
